Des
Welham MBACP
Des is a Qualified Counsellor and Group Facilitator.
Des continues to work in private practice as a counsellor,
has worked with persistent and prolific offenders and in an adult
prison Drug Rehab, as well as sometimes assisting Katie facilitating
their own Anger Management Course in the Youth Offenders Institution.
He was instrumental in designing the 8-week programme and contributed
to the 16-week programme in the Prison Drug Rehab. However, this course
focused on personal development rather than the physical effects of
drug use.
Des originally made use of the KaDe Counselling Anger
Management and HIV/Aids packages within the Drug Rehab programmes,
although he has adapted these to fit in with the work he was undertaking
at that time. Des has over 1500 hours group facilitation experience
and 2000 hours 1-1 counselling practice.
Des has also been running the groups in a variety
of locations:
• Privately,
• A Prison Drug Rehab Centre
• A local Young Offenders Institution.
• Working with people who have suffered injuries/illness to
the brain.
• For Suffolk Young People’s Health Project for a group
of young people under 16.
As new information and research in specific areas
becomes available they work on redesigning their courses/packages
together. Alternatively, they discuss their ideas in order to improve
presentation and therefore the services they deliver to the clients
and employers.
